ESHA Scholastic Hockey Program
ESHA Membership,

The ESHA Scholastic Hockey Program.
Beginning this season, ESHA has initiated the Scholastic Hockey Program. This enables youth hockey opportunities this season and in the future focused on scholastic-based hockey such as middle school and high school hockey teams. ESHA recognizes the difficulty of organizing these teams and will provide the platform to help organize effective scholastic based teams going forward. This program is especially focused on players who do not have a 'home' scholastic (middle and/or high school) program(s) that has ice hockey, such as residents of Caroline, Kent, Talbot, and Dorchester counties or home schooled players.

How it works: On a season by season basis, we will evaluate the interest in fielding teams. If we have adequate coaching, player, and support/volunteer interest, we can field a team or teams. If you have interest in fielding a team for next season (it is too late for the current season 2018-19) start planning now. Contact the ESHA Board for the next steps. This will involve needing a coach, enough players, team POC and a goal of what league (if applicable) you want to play for.

Goal for next season:  Non-Pure/Coop High School team - if interested in getting this off the ground fill this out: https://goo.gl/forms/RcBzYg8g4B9UKqId2

Shore Storm Middle School Team (Previoulsy Talbot Tide)
This season we will be introducing the middle school team Shore Storm, which will be organized as a non-pure middle school team open to primarily 6th - 8th graders, but 5th graders who are 12U/Peewee level will be considered if there is room. Because of the challenges of ice time we will likely have very few practice opportunities so this team will be treated as an opportunity for supplemental games, not really open to developmental players not currently on a club hockey team, again as we have very limited ability to practice. Note the Shore Storm will take the place of Talbot Tide at least for this season, so if you intended to play for Talbot Tide, you SHOULD sign up for Shore Storm.

Again, this year (2018-19) we are unable to practice so the team is only open to players who are currently on a club hockey team. Not open to players already playing OR eligible for a current scholastic program (like QA Co). This will be mostly games (10 - 12) with the possibility of a few practices. Cost estimate is $250/player fee.

6th - 8th graders are first choice, 5th graders (PW level) welcome if space available. Space is limited to one manageable team so there may be a selection process depending on amount of interest.

***Players will only be selected for this team from those expressing interest on this form by the deadline. 5th - 8th graders should apply now by the deadline to be considered.

DEADLINE is October 10th, 2018 (10/10/2018)

Starting in Hockey

So Your Kid Wants to Play Ice Hockey - Where Do You Start?

Make sure they like to skate, because as a hockey player they will be doing lots of skating. The Talbot County Community Center (TCCC) Ice Rink offers public sessions throughout the year. Bring your child and some of their friends to a couple of public sessions to see if they like skating, they might actually bump into some of our hockey players.

  • Once your child has decided they want to learn how to play hockey start them off with skating lessons at the Talbot County Community Center (TCCC) Ice Rink. The TCCC Ice Rink offers a Learn To Skate (LTS) program for all levels of skating, starting at 3 years old up to adult. TCCC provides three full LTS programs (six weeks) and one Mini Session of three classes.  To see all of the programs offered by the TCCC Ice Rink go to their website at TCCC Skating Programs

Once they are able to skate we offer two options (depending on age):

1. We offer our very own Learn To Play (LTP) program.  This is an option/program designed primarily for players who want to start playing hockey. This program emphasizes hockey skating skills and stick handling with an introduction to the game of hockey. The LTP program is for children ages 4-9 years old that are able to skate. If your child cannot skate, it is HIGHLY recommended that they take a Learn to Skate session. ESHA hopes to run three 6 week sessions throughout the 2018-19 hockey season; keep an eye on our website and Facebook Page.

2. Or, once they have learned how to skate, it is time to join our Easton Ice Hawks. Go to our website and register or contact our Registrar directly at .  All Kids 8 and under can participate in our program (again, they should be able to skate) and can join at any time.  For players aged10-18, we hold tryouts in late April / early May for the upcoming season.
